Assessments

A good assessment does more than “score” a child. It helps everyone understand why learning feels hard (or inconsistent), what supports make the biggest difference, and how to plan next steps with confidence.

Who it’s for

  • Children and teens with uneven progress, persistent learning difficulties, or school-related distress
  • Families who want clearer direction on support priorities and realistic next steps
  • Schools seeking actionable recommendations for classroom strategies and accommodations

Common concerns

  • Reading, writing, spelling, or maths difficulties
  • Attention, organisation, time management, or homework battles
  • Slow pace, fatigue, low confidence, or “works hard but results don’t show it”
  • Worries, perfectionism, school refusal, or emotional factors impacting learning
  • Questions about SEN profiles such as ADHD, autism, or specific learning difficulties

How we help

We use a strengths-based, hypothesis-driven approach. Tools may include interviews, questionnaires, observations, and standardised measures chosen for your child’s age and referral questions.

  • Clarify strengths, learning style, and key barriers
  • Translate findings into practical strategies for home and school
  • Support planning for exam access arrangements or classroom accommodations (where applicable)
  • If needed, recommend referrals to appropriate medical or allied health professionals

What you can expect

  • Initial intake to define the main questions and what decisions the assessment should inform
  • One or more child sessions (length varies by age and purpose)
  • Feedback meeting with caregivers (and the student, when appropriate)
  • Written summary/report with clear recommendations
  • Optional school consultation to support implementation

  1. Contact us with your child’s age, school year, and main concerns.
  2. We’ll suggest the most suitable assessment scope and timeline.

FAQs

Do you provide a diagnosis?

We focus on educational functioning and support recommendations. When diagnostic questions arise, we can explain what our assessment can and cannot address, and advise on referrals where appropriate.

How long does an assessment take?

Timelines vary by referral questions and the child’s age. We’ll outline the expected number of sessions and report turnaround during intake.

Will the school accept the report?

Schools have different policies. We write recommendations in practical language and, with consent, can liaise with the school to clarify how findings translate into classroom support.

What should we prepare?

Typically: recent school reports, any prior assessments, work samples, and teacher feedback. We’ll share a tailored checklist after intake.

Can the assessment be bilingual?

We aim to match language needs where possible. Some standardised tools have language limitations; we’ll discuss options and interpret results carefully.

Do you offer follow-up support after assessment?

Yes. Many families choose a follow-up plan such as skills coaching, parent sessions, or school-based consultation to help recommendations “stick”.
